The History of the Kings of England
The History of the Kings of England, by Simeon of Durham
translated from the Latin, with a Preface and Notes, by Joseph Stevenson
The chronicle of Simeon, monk and precentor of Durham, remains an important source for medieval history. Though its focus is on England, in particular the north of England, it also ranges over events in Wales, Scotland, Europe and the Holy Land, between 616 and 1129
Simeon takes especial care to cover events affecting the church of that period with stories of miracles and martyrdoms; the building of churches and monasteries; and the histories of saints and bishops.
